Urgent Care
& Accident & Medical Clinic

We are an urgent care clinic, not an emergency department. We prioritise all patients based on their assessed level of clinical need. This means that people with non-urgent needs may experience longer waiting times than those with more urgent needs. Due to current volumes the urgent care clinic may close earlier than the posted close times.

To check our live view of forecast wait plus treatment times download the Emergency Q app.

Accidents

We are here to provide you with treatment for an accident where you have an injury that requires urgent medical attention but is not serious enough to warrant a visit to the public hospital emergency room.

We can provide assistance with injuries to any part of your body. If you are unable to get into your own GP, and you have an urgent or acute medical problem that can’t wait until you can get an appointment with your GP,  we can also provide assistance.

Our Papakura Clinic has onsite X-ray services provided by Auckland Radiology Group.

Fracture Clinic

We hold two full day fracture clinics on Tuesdays at our Papakura Clinic and Thursdays at Takanini.

The aim of our fracture clinic is to keep patients from having to go to hospital for treatment, or to provide follow up for those who do not require surgical intervention for their bone fracture.

You can be referred by your own Doctor to our fracture clinics, or if you have had a fracture treated by us, you may be asked to follow up at one of our fracture clinics.

Our staff are experienced in fracture management including casting and splinting.

If you have been referred by your own Doctor or have been asked to make a fracture clinic appointment with us, please phone (09) 299 9380 ext 200 to make an appointment.

There are specific timeframes for follow up depending on the type of fracture you have and when the injury happened. We do try to be as flexible as possible, but it is important you keep your appointment to ensure your fracture is healing as it should.

Urgent or Acute Illness

We are here to provide you with treatment for an illness that requires urgent medical attention but is not serious enough to warrant a visit to the public hospital emergency room.

We can look after you if you are unable to get into your own GP, and you have an urgent or acute medical problem that can’t wait until you can get an appointment with your GP.

Our Urgent Care Clinics are not a family doctor to see about ongoing non-urgent long term medical conditions, repeat prescriptions, routine blood tests, referrals to specialists or non-acute surgical issues. This is the reason the Urgent Care Doctor may refer you back to your own family GP for specific tests, follow up or referral to other specialists once they have treated you for your immediate medical problem.

We do have Family Health Clinics at both Papakura and Takanini and we are accepting new enrolments.  you can click here to enrol online.

Radiology

Our Papakura Clinic has onsite radiology services provided by Auckland Radiology Group including Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound and X-ray.  Our Takanini clinic has radiology services provided by SRG which provides radiology services including Ultrasound, Obstetric Ultrasound and MRI.

Community Spirometry

We are a provider of community spirometry.  This is a comprehensive test to ascertain lung function. To access this service you must be referred by your GP. This is a specialty skill performed by a trained practice nurse.

Aclasta & Iron Infusions

Aclasta (Zoledronic acid) is an effective treatment of osteoporosis and is now available as a once-yearly intravenous infusion in primary care.

The infusion is funded under PHO clinical programmes for patients who meet PHARMAC Special Authority criteria.

If you are concerned about your bone health please book to see one of our doctors for discussion. Our nurses are trained in giving IV infusion and we offer this service in our clinic.

Iron Infusions (Ferinject) are available to treat iron deficiency anaemia. We offer this service in our clinic.

Test Results

If the Doctor gives you a lab form to get tests done, you need to take that form to Awanui Labs for these to be done. You can see the Collection Centres here. Your test result is then sent to the Urgent Care clinic and a copy will also go to your family GP, if you have listed this when you came to see us.

If the result requires urgent action, you will be phoned immediately by our Urgent Care staff. If results require follow up but not urgently, you will be contacted so that you can then go to see your GP for follow up. If your results are normal, you will not receive any notification, unless this was specified at the time you saw the Urgent Care Doctor.
